CUSTODY
The word, “CUSTODY” means which one of the parents, the Mother or Father, will have the children most, if not ALL of the time. An example of “CUSTODY” happens when the Father/Mother has left or gone away and is no longer living with the children or caring for them. If that occurs, the other parent is the parent with Custody.
In Florida, when a parent has had or wants to have SOLE CUSTODY, that parent will need to get a Court Order that says that the parent is the “MAJORITY CUSTODIAN” of the children. There are many reasons why a parent would gain CUSTODY over the children so its important to speak with a lawyer about your case and the reasons for wanting to have CUSTODY.
