What if I am in the middle of my case and want to bring on an Attorney?
Many participants in divorces or paternity/child custody cases start their cases without lawyers, only to find out later that they need legal representation and advice. It is comforting for the majority of such parties to hire an attorney after a case has begun, just so that they can get the correct advice. Experienced lawyers know their local judges and can tell clients what to expect, based upon past experiences. This is essential in the representation process so that the client can make intelligent and informed decisions.
Another reason to obtain proper legal advice, is so that the attorney can develop legal strategies in advance of any hearings that are designed with proper guidance, obtain advice about the laws that apply and know that a lawyer will be there to protect their interests and make valid arguments to the Judge.
Additionally, in some Florida Family Law cases, it becomes necessary for a Client to change lawyers before a Divorce or Paternity case is concluded. This may happen because a client has had a falling out with the lawyer or the two of them disagree about how the case is being handled. This may also happen when a client does not wish to follow a lawyer's recommended “legal advice.” When a new lawyer takes the place of the client's former lawyer, it is called a “Substitution of Counsel.” In these kinds of cases, the lawyer is going to spend as much time as needed to read the entire court file, meet with the client and discover what work is needed or is missing.
When it comes to the hard decisions that must be made in Divorce or Paternity cases, it is extremely important that the client and lawyer are “on the same page.”
