PATERNITY CASE IN FLORIDA
In Florida, a Paternity case can be filed by either the Mother or Father of a child. The purpose of a Paternity case is for a Judge to determine the rights of both the Father and Mother when a child is born while the parents are not married to each other. A child born out of wedlock means that when the child was born the parents were not married to each other. In some situations, it may not be obvious or clear who the child's father is.
Another reason for a Mother or Father in Florida to file a Paternity Case is for a Court to sign an Order that states:
- What kind of Time Sharing each parent will have;
- Determine Parental Responsibilities between the parents, such as decision making over major health, medical or education issues;
- The amount of monthly Child Support and other money issues;
- Other kinds of issues of importance to the parties;
In many cases it may be necessary to prove that a man is the child's father. This can be done in several different ways, so it's important to speak to an experienced lawyer about those issues and your rights as a parent.
